NASA’s Planetary Defense Office is taking on “World Ending” Near-Earth Objects.

Remember back in 1998 when you sat in a theater chair for Armageddon and Charlton Heston scared the hell out of you with the above speech? “It happened before; it will happen again. It’s just a question….of when.” Not to worry, NASA‘s got a plan.

NASA’s Planetary Science Division has been hard at work searching for near-Earth objects (NEO) and they have officially formalized the group with the creation of the Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO). NASA’s research had discovered over 13,500 NEO’s since it kicked off in ’98, or about 1,300 new finds per year. They will also be collaborating with FEMA and other federal agencies in case of any looming threats.
